Oxfordshire copywriting company WORD-right, has announced the launch of a series of Copywriting Masterclasses.

The first in the new series is ‘Professional Copywriting Techniques’ which will be held on Thursday 26th May.  The second: Website Copywriting, will be held on Tuesday 28th June.  The half-day classes will all be held at Bloxham Mill Business Centre, near Banbury, from 9.15am until 12.30pm.

WORD-right held a pilot Press Release Writing Masterclass in early April.  The class was fully booked and ten people attended.  The positive feedback has prompted the development of additional copywriting Masterclasses.

The Masterclasses take a hands-on approach, with students having the opportunity to put their buslearning into practice.  The classes are designed to help small business owners and marketing professionals improve their business writing skills.

The Copywriting Techniques Masterclass will cover such subjects as accessibility, writing styles, and what to write.  The Website Copywriting Masterclass will illustrate why writing for the web is different, and students will each write a web page for their own company.  Each attendee will receive a comprehensive take-home notes pack covering the content of the class.

While each Masterclass can be booked separately, prospective students wishing to attend the Website Copywriting Masterclass are being encouraged to also attend the Copywriting Techniques session.  This will ensure they have the appropriate writing skills needed to make the most of the website writing class.

Joy McCarthy, WORD-right’s principal copywriter comments, “We asked the students who attended the Press Release Writing Masterclass what other subjects they would like covered.  Their input has resulted in the creation of the new series of Masterclasses.  The popularity of the subjects meant several of the places were booked within hours of their launch.”

The cost of each Masterclass is £40 + VAT.  Places can be booked online at http://www.word-right.co.uk/copywriting-masterclass.html.  Anyone booking the Copywriting Techniques and the Website Writing Masterclasses together will receive a £10 discount, paying £70 for the two instead of £80.

Yesterday saw our very first copywriting masterclass held at Bloxham Mill near Banbury.  We had a full house of 10 people from a range of businesses.  Although we expected everyone to be local, one of our delegates travelled from Hertfordshire to attend the masterclass!

PR Masterclass training in Oxfordshire

Wearing PR hats!

The ice was quickly broken when everyone was tasked with making themselves a PR hat … from a sheet of newspaper.  They didn’t know origami was also on the agenda!  Later in the morning, Ray Avery the general manager of Bloxham Mill, popped in to judge the results.

After covering some PR theory, everyone got down to work writing their own press release.  Their enthusiasm was inspirational … as were the results.  At the end of the session, each delegate was given a comprehensive take-home pack of notes to back-up their hands-on learning.

The feedback was very positive, with many of the students demanding more copywriting sessions!  Here’s what some of them had to say:

“Word-right’s PR Masterclass was really enjoyable and very informative. A relaxed way of learning.  I would definitely recommend this class. Joy has a great deal of knowledge which I would love to tap into further.”

“An excellent, concise course with a comprehensive take-home pack. Would thoroughly recommend this course to anyone who wants to write eye-catching press releases.”

“I never thought I would be able to write press releases, but now I have the tools and confidence to do so.”

Future copywriting masterclasses will be announced shortly.  For more information, visit the WORD-right website or call Joy McCarthy on 01608 642845.

Oxfordshire-based copywriter company WORD-right (www.word-right.co.uk), is hosting a half-day Press Release Writing Masterclass on April 6th 2011 at Bloxham Mill near Banbury.  The morning masterclass starts at 9.15am and ends at 12.30pm.

The interactive masterclass is designed to help small businesses learn how to write effective press releases.  The class will also cover the difference between traditional offline and online PR, and how to identify newsworthy stories about their business.

There are 10 places available for the masterclass.  Attendees will have the opportunity to write a press release under the guidance of their tutor, Joy McCarthy.  Each person will receive a printed information pack which covers all the course material delivered during the masterclass.

“Small business owners often don’t take advantage of PR because they are daunted by the thought of writing a press release,”  comments Joy McCarthy, WORD-right’s director and principal copywriter. “The masterclass will teach them all they need to identify their PR opportunities and how to create effective press releases.”

The PR masterclass is the first in a series of small business copywriting workshops.  Future masterclasses will include writing for websites and the role of copywriting in SEO (search engine optimisation).

The cost of the masterclass is £40 + VAT.  Places can be booked online at www.word-right.co.uk/copywriting-masterclass.html. Numbers are limited to 10 per masterclass.

A 25% ‘early bird’ discount is being offered for online bookings made before 28th February 2011.  Anyone booking online should use the promotion code: NUE110217173023 and click on the ‘recalculate’ button to activate the discount.

TeamSeer Ltd, the UK’s most widely adopted absence management software service, has been shortlisted as a finalist in 3 categories of Sift Media’s 2010 Software Satisfaction Awards.  The winners will be announced at an awards’ ceremony at the Grand Connaught Rooms on Thursday 7 October 2010.

As a result of the online poll, TeamSeer has gone through to the final stages in the following categories:

  • SME Human Resources and Human Capital Management
  • Enterprise Human Resources and Human Capital Management
  • SME Paperless Office and Document Management

The Business Software Satisfaction Awards were established in 2006, to reward high standards from software application providers serving UK businesses.  The winners are decided by a combination of user votes (50%) and judged elements (50%).

The online voting, which ended on 14 June 2010, is based on the views of genuine end-users.  As well as completing the online poll, users had the opportunity to provide feedback on the product and the company’s service.  This feedback is reported anonymously to the entrants after the awards’ ceremony in October.

All finalists are required to submit a written 3-part entry for the awards’ judging panel, demonstrating proof of product development and how this has been influenced by the end-user, the future product roadmap with particular emphasis on how this will benefit, and be driven by end-users, and a customer case study.

TeamSeer Managing Director Peter Wake comments, “This is the first time TeamSeer has entered the awards and we are very excited to be shortlisted in 3 categories.  The response from our users has been overwhelming and we’ve had countless messages of support.  Although winning such a prestigious award would be a great accolade, one of the biggest benefits is getting unbiased feedback from our users.  TeamSeer’s service and product development is driven by our customers’ needs and suggestions.”

Chipping Norton copywriters and allotment holders, Joy and David McCarthy, have recently set up a new blog to act as an online diary and information resource for both ‘allotmenteers’ and vegetable gardeners. (http://copywritersallotment.wordpress.com/)   The couple, who took

over their overgrown half-sized plot in September 2007, had only documented their progress with pictures prior to the blog.

The blog is updated each week and additional pages tell the story so far.  The McCarthys are hoping other allotment holders and gardeners will add comments and suggestions to help provide down-to-earth practical advice for new gardeners and growers.

Joy McCarthy explained, “We wanted to have a written record, as well as a photographic one, of our work on the allotment and what better way to do that than with a blog.  With the huge surge in interest in growing your own food, we hope our allotment blog will provide some inspiration to new allotment keepers and help put Chippy’s growers on the map.  The experienced allotment holders have a wealth of information which we’d like to tap into.  With the large number of younger people and families now queuing up for an allotment, a blog is a good way of ensuring vital information is passed on.  We’ve already started to include some tips and suggestions on dealing with problems such as slugs and caterpillars, but we make no secret of the fact we’re rookies when it comes to gardening on this scale.

Because we wanted a complete record, this year we’ve been weighing  everything we’ve harvested.  At the beginning of September, our 90’ x 25’ plot had produced an amazing 98 kg of fresh vegetables from just this season’s crops!  Just for fun, we’re also working out what it would have cost to buy, based on prices in the local shops.  Had we bought everything we’ve grown from Sainsbury’s or the Co-op, we would have spent nearly £300 so far.  With the potential for having home-grown produce 12 months of the year from our allotment, we expect that figure to be almost £1,000 in total.  Including the price of seeds and some investment in canes and net, we’ve spent around £120 this year.  It just goes to show it is worth growing your own and there’s no doubt home-grown veg tastes so much better.”

As well as the online diary and allotment tips, a recipe section is also being developed on the blog.  Anyone wishing to read the blog or make any comments or suggestions should visit: http://copywritersallotment.wordpress.com/

The Banbury Guardian article about Team Attitude at Altitude’s trek to Kilimanjaro in aid of Breakthrough Breast Cancer, moved Chipping Norton Internet marketing specialists, WEB-right (www.web-right.co.uk) to offer its support.  The company has pledged to create a 7-page website, complete with professional copywriting, to help spearhead the Team’s fundraising efforts.  The website, www.twin-peaks.co.uk is expected to be live by Friday 14th August.

The Twin-Peaks website will provide information about the Team’s fundraising and training, the work of Breakthrough Breast Cancer, and sponsors’ details.  In addition, the site will contain a live link to the Just Giving online donation page, and visitors will be able to sign-up to receive regular newsletters from the Attitude at Altitude team.

The site is being created by WEB-right’s director, David McCarthy.  He describes the website as being “very pink, fun and funky”.  All the copy is being written by fellow director, Joy McCarthy, who heads the company’s copywriting team.  The website will encourage people to organise fundraising events by providing PDF downloads of fundraising ideas, sponsorship forms, and Gift Aid forms for UK tax-payers.

Joy McCarthy of WEB-right was employed in the charity sector for several years in the 1990s.  She has given the Team some advice on fundraising and marketing themselves, as well as helping promote their appeal online.   She is also using her networking contacts to help generate support for Team Attitude at Altitude amongst local businesses.

Joy McCarthy comments, “When we saw the article in the Banbury Guardian, we had to help.  In recent years 4 friends of mine have died of breast cancer – all of them in their 30s and 40s.  It is a devastating disease.  Our skills lie in helping companies market themselves on the Internet, and exactly the same methods can be used to help Deb Hunt and her team’s fundraising appeal.  We’re enjoying working on the Twin-Peaks website and it’s great to be involved in fundraising again, especially for such an important cause.”
